Palm Desert is a true community, with plenty of events yearround for all ages. Here are just a few that caught our eye.
Fourth Of July Celebration: Every year families gather at Civic Center Park for a “good old fashioned Independence Day fireworks celebration”. Pack your picnic dinner and blankets, and enjoy the National Anthem, followed by a concert then a 20 minute fireworks show.
The Arthur Lyons Film Noir Festival: “Founded in 2000 by the late mystery author and Palm Springs community leader Arthur Lyons, this unique festival features an eclectic mixture of landmark and obscure vintage movies from the classic film noir era. Laden with period post war cynicism, these glorious black and white films are laden with suspense, sexuality and crime portrayed from the perspective of the criminals. Each year, the festival showcases the best of film noir accentuated by a scintillating array of movie stars who appear on stage for post screening Q&A discussions, autographs and book signings.”
Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival: A huge annual event presenting all types of music, from hip hop to rock to funk to jazz. For many people, this annual concert is a ritual. In addition to music, there are also light shows, public art displays, and more.
Desertscapes: A month long tribute to the early desert painters and the contemporary artists that followed. The mission of Desertscapes is to promote and educate the public about the early painters, as well as contemporary landscape artists in and around the Coachella Valley.
Frank Sinatra Celebrity Invitational: an annual golf event, started by Frank Sinatra himself, that benefits the “Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center at Eisenhower Medical Center”. The invitational golf tournament “enjoys a rich history as one of the marquee golf and fundraising events in the Palm Springs, California desert. Each year, celebrities, amateur contestants, loyal sponsors and enthusiastic spectators from all over the country look forward to returning to this unique ‘celebrity friendly’ event.”
Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival: Over 307,000 people came to enjoy this the 65th Annual Fair in 2011. Headliner entertainment, exciting exhibits, sand sculptures, and so much more are available for people to come and enjoy. The 10 day event draws thousands from all over Southern California.
